Dame Joan Collins celebrates her 85th birthday today born May 23rd 1934. Pictured here with Sydney Chaplin, son of Charlie Chaplin & Lita Grey. He and Joan had a romance in 1954 before career ambitions took over. Joan Collins appeared in several films and television before hitting it big, famously known as Alexis Carrington from 1980’s “Dynasty”.
Sydney made his mark on Broadway, in 1957 he received a Tony Award for his role as Jerry Moss in “Bells are Ringing”, starring opposite Judy Holiday. When the play became a movie in 1960, while Judy Holiday kept her role, the role Sydney played went to Dean Martin.
He also appeared on Broadway with Barbra Streisand (who he also romanced) in “Funny Girl”, he played the role of Nick Arnstein, he received a Tony nod, like with “Bells are Ringing”, when “Funny Girl” became a movie his role went to another actor, Omar Sharif (in a Chaplin connection, Omar appeared along side Geraldine in “Dr Zhivago”)
