boston-jason: Any woman—any person—who is self-conscious about “flaws” in their body needs to spend time looking at this picture. The Japanese aesthetic wabi-sabi sees the beauty in imperfection and transience. I have sat in the garden at Ryōan-ji in the rain and was struck silent by its beauty. No picture can ever do it justice. In this tradition there is an art called kintsugi or kintsukuroi in which broken pottery is repaired with gold or silver. The broken pieces are more beautiful for having been broken and lovingly repaired. Given a choice of merely looking at the fiction of airbrushed and Photoshopped perfection, give me the real woman breathing in front of me and quivering at my touch. Her stretch marks are lines of growth. I want to trace them with a fingertip, to kiss along them purposefully. She is beautiful. She is latent power and motion restrained. —boston-jason / in_extremis http://lily-xo.tumblr.com/post/2321562147 http://designblog.rietveldacademie.nl/?parent=projects&cat=402 http://blogs.dickinson.edu/japan2010/page/4/
