sparklejamesysparkle: Bette Davis in a candid outtake showing how angry she got with herself when she had trouble delivering a line while filming the Warner Bros./Edmund Goulding melodrama The Great Lie, 1941. Davis disliked the lackluster script she was given to work with on this film and she enlisted her co-star Mary Astor to help her re-write many of their scenes together, taking her aside and saying: “This picture is going to stink! It’s too incredible for words, so it’s up to us to rewrite this piece of junk to make it more interesting!”. As a result of their script-doctoring, Astor won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her performance in the movie, thanking Bette for her generosity and support in her acceptance speech.
