contranym-xendo: fluffmugger: srsfunny: More Beautiful After Being Broken What this trite imagery misses out on is the fact that kintsukuroi requires a lot of work to repair a piece like that. It takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, a great deal of investment. Sometimes parts of the original are damaged beyond repair, and you have to instead painstakingly create entirely new ones. It’s still not the same. Maybe it’s something more beautiful. But it’s not the fact that it broke that makes it beautiful. It’s the work put into it. It’s the fact that people made the effort to salvage it, because it was worth salvaging, because it was important enough to salvage. It’s the care that makes the beauty. An apology can’t always fix what has been broken. That doesn’t mean it’s not irreparable, sometimes you can go on to rebuild and repair. But it won’t ever be the same as it was again. I really appreciate this addition because I’ve always hated the “more beautiful for having been broken” thing. Being broken sucks and I hate all those tragic romantic sensitivities that try to make it what it’s not. These pieces are beautiful because they’re repaired with effort put in to making them shine.

boobsdontworkthatway: finkspiration: beatonna: (click for bigger if it’s small) I had a lot of fun with this on twitter, so I just kept on going with it. But you know, I’m always kind of touched by how strongly fans support their favourite characters, and there is a lot of love for Cloak and Dagger, and you can see why because there are some pretty great things about that pair. But that costume, come on, it’s a big old slice of tit window pie. They don’t always dress Dagger like that, but yeah they mostly do! But they probably won’t on the tv show! I didn’t dwell on Cloak very much in a comic about tit windows, but, here’s something. I tweeted this essay a while ago when I read it, but Cloak’s lack of a body really brought it to mind again, and you should totally read it, though mostly it is about the character Cyborg, it is relevant here too: Humanity Not Included: DC’s Cyborg and the Mechanization of the Black Body by Robert Jones, Jr. HECK YES -s

goth-aunt: ramihackme: dellvanity: madeinchernobyl: I’m adding to this because y’all gonna learn some shit about housing your pets. Someone make more I love this new meme. I know that huge homes are great for pets but also did it fucking occur to you that some people don’t have the room or money for those? hey, guess what. those are all minimum requirements. actually, the person who added onto my post even made the bird cage still TOO small for those birds. and if you dont have the money or the space for those pets, don’t fucking get the pet. Exactly!!!!

beaniebaneenie: fuckyeahasexual: fuckyeahasexual: So if you lived in a society where you had to secure your communication in order to be yourself around others, here are the apps that could help you do that. Signal let’s you securely text and make phone calls. Onion Browser allows you to surf the web without leaving a trail. Duck Duck Go isn’t super secure but it won’t record your searches like Google. ProtonMail is a email client that lets you email other secure email accounts. Periscope allows you to stream live video. Semaphor is there so you can securely make group chat rooms. American privacy laws allow you to use these all. So that’s pretty cool. Because we’re currently living in the prologue of a cyberpunk dystopian novel, imma reblog this.

boweldisruptions: knitpool: blujayonthewing: So it occurred to me that ‘grawlix’ is sort of an obscure and specialized word, but what I didn’t know until I was googling around just now is that it was actually invented by cartoonist Mort Walker in his 1980 book The Lexicon of Comicana, in which he categorizes (and invents terminology for) all kinds of visual cues and shorthand commonly used in comics In other news, this is now right up there with The Meaning of Liff as ‘books of made up words I desperately need to own” Important heck yeah
