hi, i'm supposed to be dead inside, but apparently delusional pro-lifers crossed my path, and evoked my fighting spirit, which it was gifted and nurtured by the Balkan ancestry. Nazis and other toxic, brainless fuckers can go gas themselves to death.

drferox: drferox: catsuggest: Veterinarian suggest: naughtie cat at vet gets comfy sack I did warn you, cat. No hard feelings. @raeofthelight @monsieurenjlolras It’s most definitely a cat, I took the photo. The netting pushes the cat flat, look at the nose and whiskers. This is an EZ Nabber, one of the few products I am prepared to directly endorse on this blog, because it’s saved my face and arms on numerous occasions. It’s like a steel framed set of square jaws filled with netting in between, allowing you to close them over any hissing ball of claws and retribution safely, whether it’s still inside the typical cat carrier, in a hospital cage, or behind a washing machine. The hurricane of fury and teeth may then settle comfortably in the stretchy netting, where we can still see it and even pat it in a condescending manner while calling it a sweet kitty. You can give a vaccine through the netting before opening the jaws back over the cat carrier to deposit the cat with ‘dignity’, or in this case jab the angry thing’s backside full of sedative so we can actually do our job. So naughty cat gets comfy sack. @catsuggest op, i want to believe you (i noticed the tail), but my eyes are still seeing adorable cat-dog hybrid.

a-little-bi-furious: natashiyaa: shatteredchrystal: runaon: a-little-bi-furious: asherehsa: samjoonyuh: Perspective. “Looting? I thought these were supposed to be nonviolent protests” I know it’s incredible! People are literally coming out of the woodwork to comment on this photoset to focus on the looting headline with “well yes it is nice they were helping people hit with the tear gas, but stealing is still wrong uwu” as if they’re back to kindergarten morality. Like everyone who’s gone to boot camp I’ve been tear gassed. They put about 50+ of you in a gas chamber and toss it in. You have to stay there until your rank is allowed to exit. Before that though, you have to say your name, rank, and social security number. You then exit and file into ranks (again) outside and are not allowed at any point to rinse your face or eyes for the entire day. That right there? Easily the worst part of boot camp. My eyes were literally swollen shut. I was blinded for a good 30 minutes and my chest hurt for days. I have zero problem and not and ounce of judgement for people raiding a mcdonalds that can easily afford to repair damage for ANYTHING to help ease the shittiness that is being tear gassed. Esp because every one of us in boot were medically sound to deal with tear gas. Children, asthmatics, people prone to panic and anxiety attacks, the elderly as sooo many more are NOT going to handle tear gas well at ALL. Or that smoke the police use either. It’s easy to sit there and judge someone from the safety of your home and say things like “it’s just tear gas” or “it can’t be that bad”. Fuck you. As someone who HAS been gassed, you need to stfu. I remember all the preparation they did to get us ready for the gas chamber in boot camp. We were taught how to handle ourselves, how to control our breathing, not to touch anything, how to avoid the worst of the gas. But it still didn’t matter. I remember taking in that first breath and feeling like I had just been kicked in the chest. I remember a few guys in my platoon falling down and vomiting. We knew the gas wasn’t as bad on the floor but we were the fifth platoon through and the vomit kept us from bending over more than absolutely necessary. I remember a few guys, guys in peak health training to be infantrymen, breaking ranks and running for the door only to be dragged back in kicking and screaming until they said name, rank and serial. They were expecting it, trained for it, bragging about how it wouldn’t bother them. I remember standing there with all of the mucus from my nasal cavity on the front of my ACUs and thinking to myself “This is the nonviolent option?” Covered head to toe and my skin still itching I looked down at the silver wedding band hanging next to my dog tags and realized that the gas had eaten little pits into its surface. I stood there and thought of all the news reports I had seen over the years. The uprisings and revolutionaries being gassed, the crowds running from men in masks. That’s the moment I got it, staring at my ruined wedding band, that’s the moment I realized terrorism isn’t about bombs or who is using them. It’s about controlling people through fear. It’s about removing their ability to act reasonably, to make them seem like the monsters. Terrorism is about triggering people to fight or flight then blaming them for not being rational. It’s about power. Remove someone’s power to act with reason, and you remove their humanity. Oh fuck My god this commentary is perfect. Also a reminder that it turned out this “looting” was not that at all, the police bust that window with a bullet and the staff were gracious enough to hand milk out it seems, the protestors did not break in but even if they did just look at what they were trying to do with that milk, look at what they went through. The immense endurance that’s been shown by the people of Ferguson in the face of all this is incredible. Terrorism isn’t about bombs or who is using them. It’s about controlling people through fear. It’s about removing their ability to act reasonably, to make them seem like the monsters. Terrorism is about triggering people to fight or flight then blaming them for not being rational. It’s about power. Remove someone’s power to act with reason, and you remove their humanity.>>for the people in the back and incredibly vile people who are deaf to any morality and humanity.

gotosweep: shadeddaxion: goomba-oasis: poison-liker: gotosweep: new ebbits! new site! this is probably my favourite comic of all time jsyk can someone explain this to me? Sure thing! For convenience I’ll refer to the guy with his arms in his pockets as SG (shorter guy) and the one on the computer as TG (taller guy). In the first panel, SG sees TG playing on the computer and is disappointed. SG puts a lot of value in the idea of “making things,” specifically “art,” and thinks TG is just wasting their time So he asks them if they wouldn’t rather be “making something” instead of just playing games and listening to music, implying that TG isn’t doing anything worthwhile or creative with their time But TG replies that “interpreting is generative,” meaning that even if they spend their time just doing fun stuff, the mere act of enjoying something is creating an experience and an interpretation. Talking about something, dancing to music or sharing a piece of art with your friends IS “making something,” and each of those can be worthwhile and artistic. SG leaves, complaining he “can’t be an auteur of [interpretation].” Auteur is a movie term that refers to a filmmaker with artistic control and vision enough to be considered essentially the singular creator of the resulting work of art. Turns out, SG doesn’t just want to “make things,” he wants to make things he and others see as “important.” He wants to make art not for the sake of art, but for the sake of being recognized and praised for his art. This comic really speaks to elitism within the artistic community, the idea that art needs to meet certain standards to be considered art. SG’s viewpoint is really traditionalist, that art need to be “approved” and validated in order to be considered “really art;” while TG recognizes that art can be as little as just talking about what you love. TLDR: Art is for everyone, not just some sort of social “artistic elite.” ooh i love the explanation

sisterofiris: Translating ancient hymns for modern worshippers A few weeks ago, I announced that I would be translating the Orphic Hymns for Hellenic polytheists. I am pleased to say that as of today, I have started work! In this post, I will explain exactly what the project entails, and answer some of the questions I’ve been asked. You are welcome to share it with anyone who may be interested. Why create a new translation? As I wrote in the post linked above, the translation of the Orphic Hymns that’s most easily available online - and that many polytheists use - is Thomas Taylor’s from 1792. This means the language is often hard to understand, especially for non-native English speakers, and is not always close to the original text. Many wonderful translations have been published since then, including by Apostolos Athanassakis, but they are (understandably) not available for free. Since the Orphic Hymns are religious texts, I would like to make a translation fully accessible to modern worshippers, both regarding money and regarding the language used. What kind of translation are you aiming for? My translation aims to be as literal and close to the original as possible. I have chosen not to write it in metric verse, so as to keep the Greek structure wherever I can without inserting or deleting words. (As an example, in the Prologue, where Thomas Taylor translates “various Genii, that o’er men preside”, the Greek literally reads “the most-godly Daimon and the Daimon harmful to mortals”.) While I obviously have my biaises in word choice, my main principle is to write in English what the Greek says - nothing more, nothing less. The translation is also geared specifically towards Hellenic polytheists, as opposed to neo-pagans or Classicists. While anyone is welcome to use it, my word choice and notes on the text are meant to be particularly useful to this audience. (As an example, I take care to clarify the religious meaning of ὅσιος instead of just translating it as “sacred”, and I give a short explanation of assimilation and how it is used in the hymns.) Though I use academic resources, this is not a work of scholarship but a work of devotion. What will the full document include? It will include the following: an introduction to the Orphic Hymns and the theology behind them, as well as a commentary on the choices I’ve made in my translation the Greek text of each of the 87 hymns my translation of each hymn notes on the individual hymns, mainly further explanation on word meanings and their connotations a glossary with all the words in Ancient Greek and their translations Where, when and how will it be available? It will hopefully be available this autumn/fall, as a PDF downloadable online for free. I am still considering which website to host it on. Keep an eye on my blog (@sisterofiris) for updates. What are your qualifications? I am getting a masters degree in Ancient Greek, and I have been studying and translating Ancient Greek texts for nine years (including three at university). In addition to this, I have been a Hellenic polytheist for almost half my life, and have been a committed reconstructionist for four years. How can we support you? As I wrote in my original post (linked above), you can help in several ways: by sharing the project with those around you, so that those who may be interested are informed by beta reading the translation once it’s completed - I’m particularly interested in the help of (a) people with writing experience, and/or (b) people with an understanding of Ancient Greek by checking out my other projects, in particular my YouTube channel where I post recordings of ancient texts, including Orphic and Homeric hymns by supporting other Hellenic polytheistic organisations like Labrys, whose work relies in part on donations by contributing financially via PayPal, bearing in mind that I do not actively need donations at this point. I am mainly adding the link because people have asked for it, but I recommend checking out the above options first!
