Some statistics from the DGA on the status of women directors in television during the 2016-2017 television season.
Some very revealing numbers show that even in shows where women directors are common, the numbers for women of colour remain startling low. Too much of the time progress for women actually means progress for white women only.
Only three shows, Queen Sugar, Insecure and American Crime, hired women of colour 50% of the time or more. All three of these shows were created by black people: Ava DuVernay (Queen Sugar), Issa Rae (Insecure) and John Ridley (American Crime).
